Don Henderson
J.D., Legal and Compliance Consulting

Don Henderson is an attorney with over 35 years of legal practice and consulting experience in the employee benefits area. He joined Retirement Horizons to consult on technical and compliance matters in all areas being service by RHI. Don has extensive experience working with all types of retirement plans (qualified and non-qualified), employee welfare benefit and other employee benefit plans, and executive compensation plans. Don’s work over the years has included work for hundreds of the Fortune 500 companies in the energy, financial, telecommunications, retail, airlines and many other industries. His primary responsibilities at RHI include:

 

  • Consulting on a full array of design and compliance matters for qualified defined contribution and defined benefit retirement plans.
  • Consulting on design and compliance matters for non-qualified retirement and executive compensation programs.
  • General compliance consulting on ERISA and Internal Revenue Code matters relating to retirement and compensation programs.

 

Prior to joining Retirement Horizons, Don was an owner/partner with Hewitt Associates, where he spent 19 years serving as the firm’s Legal Practice Leader in the Southwest Region. Don’s experiences prior to working for Hewitt included 12 years of law practice with large national law firms, and three years as Senior Corporate Counsel for Cooper Industries.

Don received his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia Law School and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Richmond. Don is a member of the American Bar Association (where he has served on various committees), and the Virginia, Ohio and Alabama state bar associations. He has also been a speaker at numerous ERISA and employee benefit plan conferences over the years.
